NFCA Fireproofing Education and Examinations
for NFCA Accredited Contractor (CAP) / UL Qualified SFRM DRI's and Fireproofing Inspectors

NFCA Fireproofing Education and Exams are created for fireproofing industry participants to prove thier fireproofing knowledge - based study of the NFCA Handbook of Accepted Fireproofing Knowledge.

Contractor Personnel take the education and exams to become NFCA Contractor Accreditation Program (CAP) DRI's.  Fireproofing Contractors are required to be NFCA CAP Accredited before moving on to the UL Qualified SFRM Contractor Program (ULQSFRM) program.  A NFCA CAP DRI can become a UL DRI once the company also becomes UL Qualified.

Special Inspection Agency personnel need to prove fireproofing competency to the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), as required by the International Building Code (IBC) - or just to set themselves apart from other competitors. Fireproofing inspectors can gain recognition through taking and passing the NFCA SFRM and IFRM Fireproofing Exams - based on the NFCA Handbook of Accepted Fireproofing Knowledge.

NFCA’s Fireproofing Education for the NFCA SFRM and IFRM Fireproofing Exams is the first step to DRI Status in the NFCA Contractor Accreditation Program and the UL Qualified SFRM Contractor Program. The education covers the fireproofing industry from several perspectives, including:

- Tested and listed system selection and analysis

- UL Fire-Resistance Directory's Guide Information at UL’s Product iQ

- IBC Code compliance

- Beam Substitution Procedures

- Thickness adjustment Procedures

- Surface Preparation - Priming requirements

- Inspection

- NFCA Standards

- ASTM Standards relevant to fireproofing

- International Building Code requirements for fireproofing.

The NFCA Fireproofing Education for IFRM and SFRM and examinations are based on the NFCA Handbook of Accepted Fireproofing Knowledge, and include information on the UL Qualified SFRM Contractor Program Requirements.
