UL Qualified SFRM Contractor Program

NFCA announces the NEW and IMPROVED UL Qaulified SFRM Contractor Program

NFCA and UL have partnered to improve the UL Qualified SFRM Contractor Program from 2007-2010, and worked to update the program designed to help keep buildings safe.

NFCA SFRM Accredited Contractors install SFRM in accordance with the tested and listed system design and maufacturers instructions.  The UL Qualified SFRM Contractor Program offers the SFRM Contractor, Specifiers, Code Officials and others, an independent, third party audit of the contractor's management system used to get fireproofing installed. This is a quantified way to quantifyably qualify the SFRM Contractor and demonstrate SFRM Contractor's quality.

NFCA Fireproofing Education Programs

UL's Qualified SFRM Contractor Program has a Management System audit by UL and a requirement for the contractor to appoint a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) at the UL Qualified Fireproofing Company. To become a DRI, the person must attend the NFCA Fireproofing Education for SFRM and pass the NFCA SFRM Examination, the required education and examination to become the UL Qualified Contractor's DRI. The NFCA Fireproofing Education for IFRM and SFRM, and examinations are offered at least once a year, live and in person. NFCA Fireproofing Education and Examinations for SFRM and IFRM are based on the NFCA Handbook of Accepted Fireproofing Knowledge and the UL Qualified SFRM Contractor Program Requirements.

NFCA Handbook of Accepted Fireproofing Knowledge

The NFCA Handbook of Accepted Fireproofing Knowledge provides fireproofing contractors, inspection agencies, specifiers and code officials, with detailed infomration on all aspects of fireproofing. The document covers SFRM and IFRM, and more. The NFCA Handbook is used as the study guide during the NFCA Fireproofing Education Programs before taking the NFCA SFRM or IFRM Examinations. The NFCA Handbook of Accepted Fireproofing Knowledge is available by emailing NFCA - info@nfca-online.org.
